New playground opens for children in Fort Bragg neighborhood

The Bougainville/Corrigedor Courts neighborhood kids now have a place to play and let off some energy thanks to the help of the USO of North Carolina, Lowe’s Home Improvement, the Carolina Panthers, and Picerne Military Housing’s partnership to building two brand new ‘Super Heroes’ playgrounds.
During a ribbon cutting ceremony, Tuesday, the playgrounds were opened to neighborhood Families.
The Bougainville/Corrigedor Courts neighborhood has about 600 Families living in the cozy accommodations. The playground will benefit more than 70 Families and 150 children who live nearby.

“The playgrounds are named Super Heroes playgrounds as a reflection of the generosity our partners have expressed and the courage and resiliency of out military Families who will ultimately benefit from these play spaces,” said Renee Lane, Fort Bragg Center directory for the USO of NC.

With thousands of dollars donated, the playgrounds were built to provide more play for Families on post.

“Building and living in a home doesn’t build a community … these (playgrounds) do,” said Col. Stephen Sicinski, Fort Bragg Garrison commander.

“Once again we’ve proved that Fayetteville is truly a military friendly city.”

The equipment was funded by Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation and the Carolina Panthers Charitable Foundation and were constructed by the Picerne Military Housing maintenance. The two playgrounds are already scheduled to receive more play equipment down the road to make them bigger and more fun.

“I was very excited when I saw this playground,” said Adam Schillinger, 9. “I will play on this a lot.”
