Specialist Phillip Roberts, of the 610th Movement Control Team, 330th Movement Control Battalion, mans a gun turret during a live-fire convoy exercise in January. The three-day exercise was held to prepare Soldiers for the challenges of deployment.

The 330th Movement Control Battalion sent its Soldiers to the field Jan. 19, for three days to participate in a challenging convoy live-fire exercise.

The exercise was tailored to the missions they can expect to perform in a deployed environment.

The 186th Quartermaster Company was given the opportunity to plan and conduct the exercise for the deploying units in the 330th Movement Control Bn. The unit’s, 261st and 610th Movement Control Teams and 204th Water Purification Team, were able to train on situations such as reacting to an ambush, reacting to improvised explosive devices, reacting to sniper fire, setting up a landing zone and ensuring junior leaders were able to give clear IED and nine-line medical evacuation reports.

All ranks of Soldiers participated in this exercise with challenging positions.

“What was exciting to me was the fact that as a Pfc., I had the opportunity to be the (lead vehicle commander), a position usually given to an NCO,” said Pfc. Jessica Brown, 610th MCT.
This training exercise ensured that every member of the 330th MCB is trained and prepared to deploy in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The goal of the event was to solidfy Soldiers’ confidences in their leaders and their equipment. This will ensure their success downrange.
