A field of 16,676 starts the 22nd Army Ten-Miler, America’s largest 10-mile road race that begins and ends at the Pentagon. There were 15,134 official finishers in the event last year. Officials expect the total amount of participants to reach 30,000 this year.

WASHINGTON — Online registration is now open for the 2010 Army Ten-Miler at www.armytenmiler.com.

Officials opened registration April 1 for all categories.

Due to the record pace of the registration for last year’s race, hopeful participants are encouraged to register as soon as possible.

Last year, spots for the Army Ten-Miler sold out in a record six days, and the 2010 race is expected to repeat that trend.

The 26th annual Army Ten-Miler is scheduled for Oct. 24, in Washington.

The field is capped at 30,000 runners.

The race is open to both military and civilian runners, and runners must be at least 15 years of age on race day.

Individual entry fees are $55, plus a processing fee. Team creation is $35, plus a processing fee for the name only; each runner must pay the individual entry fee. Youth to run for kids in grades kindegarden through 8th is $10, plus a processing fee. A limited number of upgrade T-shirts are available for $26, plus a processing fee. You can also order an Army Ten-Miler short-sleeve training T-shirt when you register for a special price of $30.

“Now in its 26th year, the Army Ten-Miler has become one of Washington’s most admired and popular running events,” said Jim Vankdak, Army Ten-Miler race director. “Even with last year’s expansion to 30,000 participants, the race had an all-time record sell out in less than one week. We encourage runners who have a strong desire to participate in this year’s race to register online quickly.”

The Army Ten-Miler, which is also known as the Army’s race, is one of the largest 10-mile road races in the world.

This unique road race has both its start and finish lines at the Pentagon. Race weekend activities are scheduled to include a two-day race expo, fitness clinics, youth runs, post-race party and HOOAH tents from Armyinstallations around the world.

The Army Ten-Miler is produced by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington, with proceeds benefiting Army Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, a comprehensive network of support and leisure services designed to enhance the lives of Soldiers and their Families.

The mission of the Army Ten-Miler is to promote the Army, build esprit de corps, support fitness goals, and enhance community relations.
