Fort Bragg Soldiers and Family members have a chance to find their inner peace at a yoga class taught at the Corregidor/Bougainville Neighborhood Center. The class, regularly taught by Amanda Patton every Monday and Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., provides a chance for participants to strengthen and tone their bodies while relaxing their mind.
“The best thing about yoga is how well it tones your body,” said Myah Mason, a guest instructor for Monday’s class. “Its benefits include the intense stretching and the relaxation it provides.”
Mason, whose husband is currently deployed to Iraq with 3rd Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, said yoga has helped her get through his long deployment.
Dabi Moore, also the spouse of a Soldier deployed to Iraq with the 307th Building Support Batallion, 1st BCT, 82nd Abn. Div., said she’s glad Fort Bragg offers classes like there for spouses.
“I’ve never been to a yoga class before, but it is something I really wanted to try,” said Moore. “I saw the flyer on the (Family and Morale, Recreation and Welfare) website Friday and am excited to try it. Plus, they offer free childcare. That’s a great benefit.”
Amanda Christianson, FMWR group fitness coordinator, helped get the class started at the neighborhood center. Christianson said she has taught just about every other type of fitness class that FMWR offers, but yoga provides unique benefits.
“Yoga is very strengthening and a really good workout,” said Christianson. “It’s just as effective as a high-impact classes in keeping you tone and keeping you fit.”
The class is one of the many offered on Fort Bragg to promote the well being of Soldiers and their Families.
