Fort Bragg’s Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security is responsible for familiarizing the community with the installation’s mass notification system, specifically, the wide area mass notification system (Giant Voice), which is used to alert outside personnel of an emergency or hazard.  This would be a simple task if this was a closed community and not the Center of the Military Universe.

The difficulty is that Fort Bragg, on any given day, receive new personnel; students, temporary duty personnel, foreign Soldiers, new arriving Soldiers, vendors, contractors, and visitors from across the country.

How do you introduce Giant Voice to these personnel?  The answer is by providing a tone that is nationally recognizable.

The Emergency Alert System is a national public warning system, that uses a distinctive alert tone, that is broadcasted over television and radio stations in order to deliver important emergency information, such as weather information, Amber alerts, and local incident information.

Fort Bragg has adopted this alert tone for Giant Voice alerts.  When activated, personnel should immediately check local media for further information and guidance.
