List helps keep Soldiers, Family members safe

Did you know that as a Soldier there are certain places that you cannot go?
Fort Bragg has various businesses and residences that have been placed on the off-limits list. The list was updated by the Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board in September, said George Olavarria, acting director for the Directorate of Emergency Services.
Off limits establishments, according to the Provost Marshal Web site, include facilities that are plagued by crime and misconduct; liquor violations; gambling that violates state law; illegal business practices; discrimination; prostitution and unsanitary and adverse conditions.
The establishments have been identified by commanders through consultation with the AFDCB.
Violations are punishable under Article 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
The last off-limits list was updated in March, but a few changes were made to warrant a new list, said Drew Young, business operations manager for the DES and facilitator for the AFDCB.
“Establishments have been placed on the list and taken off by virtue of improved business practices,” he said.
Two establishments that have been placed on the updated list are Britlee, Inc. and ABC Bartending School, both with offices in Fayetteville, Olivarria said.
According to the PMO Web site, the process to list an establishment as off limits begins when the Staff Judge Advocate notifies an establishment of intent to place it on the off limits list; investigation, surveillance and appropriate coordination is completed; results are presented to the AFDCB, which recommends off limits areas to the commanding general for approval; and SJA notifies the establishment that it is to be placed on off limits.
The new off-limits list is fluid and susceptible to change, depending on issues of compliance or noncompliance.
“The board really wants to work with businesses and rental properties for a safer environment for the Soldiers and for everybody,” said Young.

• All unlicensed tattoo parlors.
• Drug paraphernalia. All places having such items for sale.
