E.E. Smith to host military appreciation
Special to the Paraglide
Fort Bragg’s host high school, E.E. Smith, is sponsoring a military appreciation night during their home football game on Oct. 30, against South View High School.
All military ID card holders have free admission to the football game.
E.E. Smith’s Athletic Director, Leon Mack, states, “Having served in the Army, I recognize the difficulties military Families face while serving in the armed services. This is E.E. Smith’s way of demonstrating our thanks to the student and Families with Soldiers serving our country.”
According to Mack, during the military appreciation night, the Special Operations Command Jump Team will perform during the half time show. Fort Bragg’s Garrison Commander, Col. Stephen J. Sicinski, and Civil Affairs Psychological Operations Commanding General, Maj. Gen. David N. Blackledge will be honorary captains of the football game.
Blackledge is also a 1971 graduate of E.E. Smith and a twice wounded combat
veteran.
In partnership with E.E. Smith High School, Fort Bragg is also hosting teen activities to promote the military appreciation night.
At Tolson Youth Activities Center, teens are invited to a pre-game tailgate party with food and drinks. The tailgate party will start at 5:45 p.m. at the Tolson YAC.
There will also be a game shuttle to and from E.E. Smith High School. The shuttle will depart from the Tolson YAC 6:45 p.m. and depart from the school 15 minutes after the football game ends.
To participate in the pre-game tailgate party, students must be between the ages 13 to 18 and be Child, Youth and School Services card holders; parental permission slips are required.
Interested participants can register for the pre-game tailgate party at CYSS central registration at the Soldier Support Center (4th Floor), or at the Tolson Youth Activities Center; tickets are $5.
