The community outside Fort Bragg’s gates has been supportive of the installation, said Master Sgt. Shaylon Tarver. This Christmas season provides an opportunity for Fort Bragg to return that support.
As the noncommissioned officer in charge of the XVIII Airborne Corps’ Equal Opportunity Office, Tarver is helping to conduct a holiday donation drive of goods to be given to the community.
The drive is sponsored by the Fort Bragg Cultural Celebration Committee, a committee comprised of about 30 members across the installation, said Tarver.
“We discussed the drive in our November meeting and asked ourselves what could we do to branch out, not just on post, but out in the community,” she said.
Toys, coats, gloves, underwear, clothing and food items are being collected and may be dropped off at the EO Office, Building 2-1817, at the intersection of Woodruff and Jackson streets, no later than Dec. 21.
“It doesn’t matter if it is a big donation or small donation, everything is appreciated,” Tarver said.
The donations will likely be distributed to Fort Bragg and Cumberland County Schools, as well as to the Falcon Children’s Home, a facility serving the needs of children to young adults.
As a 17-year veteran, Tarver said the thing she has most enjoyed about Army service is meeting people from different backgrounds.
“This drive is so important because everybody does have a different walk of life,” she said.
