The Fort Bragg Intrepid Spirit Center drew one step closer to becoming a reality during the groundbreaking ceremony Jan. 24.
This is the fourth, in a series of nine, national Intrepid Center of Excellence satellite centers designed to diagnose and treat traumatic brain injury and post traumatic stress in wounded servicemembers.
Funds for the new facility have made it possible for building to begin earlier than expected.
During his speech, Lt. Gen. Joseph Anderson, commanding general, XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, said he was excited that a facility like the Intrepid House was coming to Fort Bragg to help Soldiers recover from traumatic brain injuries.
“The Intrepid Center will be a facility designed for the sole purpose of treating the invisible wounds that our honored servicemembers suffered while serving their nation and (which they will) battle for the remainder of their lives,” said Anderson.
Contributor and honorary chairman of the Intrepid Heroes Fund, Arnold Fisher told the audience the day was extremely important to him.
“Fort Bragg is a community that will really benefit from an Intrepid Spirit Center,” said Fisher. “Too many servicemembers have come home after one or more tours of duty to fight their own battle against TBI and PTSD. Now, they will return home to Fort Bragg knowing that they are not alone. The Intrepid Spirit Center will give them and their Families access to answers, care and support here in their own backyards.”
The Intrepid Spirit NICoE Satellite Centers are funded and built by the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, through a $100 million fundraising campaign supported by the American public, private businesses, veterans’ groups and community organizations.
The Military Order of the Purple Heart has done its part by donating $500,000 to jumpstart the construction of the Fort Bragg Center. As part of the donation, the foundation pledged all funds raised through their text-to-donate line during January will be added to their original donation.
Anyone interested in donating to the cause can text “Purple” to 20222 to give $10 directly to the Fort Bragg NICoE Satellite Center and the donation will be reflected on the next month’s cell phone bill.
