Commissary closes for reset
The Fort Bragg South Post Commissary will be closed for a “reset” of the facility which includes the installation of new display shelves. The commissary will close at 5 p.m., May 21, and will reopen for normal business on May 24. During the times the store is closed, customers are welcome to use the North Post Commissary, which is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., (7:30 to 9 a.m. early bird, 20 items or fewer) on the days the South Post Commissary is closed.
Summer program opens
The American Red Cross has announced their Summer Youth Program at Womack Army Medical Center. The program runs from June 24 through Aug. 16 and is for youth ages 14 to 17 who are military ID card holders. Applications are now available at WAMC Red Cross office and must be returned by May 6, at 4:30 p.m.
The Radiology Department of Womack Army Medical Center has announced that patients will be accepted for self-referred annual mammograms starting Aug. 6. To schedule a self-referred annual mammogram, patients may call the radiology appointment line at 907-8266 or 907-8838 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, or walk into the Department of Radiology between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. The prerequisites are: must have a Fort Bragg provider from WAMC or any of the outlying clinics, patients with civilian providers cannot self refer and must have a prescription order, must know the name of their primary care manager, be female, 40 years of age or older, be asymptomatic (no lumps, masses, or other breast concerns), not had a mammogram done on both breasts within the last 12 months.
Bus service to Linden Oaks suspended
The Fort Bragg sustainable shuttle has suspended service to Linden Oaks as a result of budgetary restraints. All weekend and weekday service to Linden Oaks have ceased. All other routes currently remain in effect and unchanged.
Reserved parking for survivors available
Fort Bragg, along with all Army installations, now have reserved parking for Families of fallen Soldiers. The reserved parking are located at the North and South commissaries, North and South Post Exchanges, Womack Army Hospital (Reilly Road entrance), Soldier Support Center and Survivor Outreach Services.
Our Family for Families First
John G. Picerne’s charitable foundation, offers $5,000 educational grants for spouses of active-duty servicemembers. Applicants may attend community/technical college/university. Grants are a one-time award of $5,000. Applications are due by May 9.

Through the Collision Repair Education Foundation and “Hire Our Heroes” program, 3M is funding special scholarship opportunities for returning veterans who served after 9/11/01 who want to begin a collision repair career by attending a collision repair community college or college. The scholarship will pay for tuition and required books/tools for veterans enrolling in collision repair programs in the summer/fall 2013. Interested veterans can apply for the scholarship by visiting the Collision Repair Education Foundation’s website: www.CollisionEducationFoundation.org, under “Students” and “Hire Our Heroes.” The deadline for the application is May 31. As part of the application, a veteran would submit information for the collision school he/she would like to attend. The winners of the scholarship will be notified in July.
