Fort Bragg service members meeting certain requirements now have a centralized location to store their privately owned vehicles while deployed. Previously, single service members, or married service members with a spouse deployed or at a different permanent duty station, had to store their POVs at a unit-run storage lot, said Timothy Shea, chief, Installation Transportation Division/installation transportation officer, Logistics Readiness Center.

Shea said that many deployable units at Fort Bragg did not have a motor pool that they could devote to POV storage, so this new POV facility will help alleviate the stress from units. The main facility is located at the corner of Modularity Street and Old Stage Lane in the Modular Village complex area, which is a more centralized location for deployments.

“What this facility provides is the ability to store large amounts of POVs in a centralized location that is fenced, concreted and secured, so that you lessen the responsibility in terms of oversight of the lot (for commanders),” said Hector Diodonet, chief, Plans and Operations Division, LRC.

The Fort Bragg LRC is responsible for oversight of the lot. LRC officials emphasize the convenience of the new lot for deploying service members.

“We wanted it to be as central as possible to our customers,” said Diodonet. “That’s important because if you have to deploy quickly, but you have to go across the installation of Fort Bragg to drop off a vehicle, which will take 20 to 30 minutes, then you have to come all the way back, that … 60 minutes could make a difference in your ability to deploy here on a timely basis.”

With the capacity to hold 1,350 vehicles between the new facility in Modular Village and another POV storage lot on Logistics Street, the LRC provides ample parking spots for service members. Shea said that eventually, his department will be able to provide 3,000 POV storage spaces. His team analyzed the number of eligible Soldiers rotating in and out of deployments to come up with this final number.

To store a POV at the new facility, Fort Bragg Garrison policy requires service members to be on orders that authorize POV storage, be deploying on an operation covered under the Department of the Army Personnel Property Guide and meet all prerequisites for storage.
