Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

On Saturday, 9 a.m. Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation along with the 44th Medical Brigade will sponsor the 5K run/walk at Hedrick Stadium to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.

PX and commissary holiday hours

North Post Mall will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., May 25 and 26; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 27. South Post Exchange will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., May 24 and 25; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 26; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., on May 27.

The North and South Post Commissary hours will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., May 24 through 26; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 27.

Commissary closes for reset

The Fort Bragg South Post Commissary will be closed for a “reset” of the facility which includes the installation of new display shelves. The commissary will close at 5 p.m., Tuesday, and will reopen for normal business on May 24. During the times the store is closed, customers are welcome to use the North Post Commissary, which is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., (7:30 to 9 a.m. early bird, 20 items or fewer) on the days the South Post Commissary is closed.

Bus service to Linden Oaks suspended

The Fort Bragg sustainable shuttle has suspended service to Linden Oaks as a result of budgetary restraints. All weekend and weekday service to Linden Oaks have ceased. All other routes currently remain in effect and unchanged.

Reserved parking for survivors available: Fort Bragg, along with all Army installations, now have reserved parking for Families of fallen Soldiers. The reserved parking are located at the North and South commissaries, North and South Post Exchanges, Womack Army Hospital (Reilly Road entrance), Soldier Support Center and Survivor Outreach Services.

Scholarship available

Through the Collision Repair Education Foundation and “Hire Our Heroes” program: 3M is funding special scholarship opportunities for returning veterans who served after 9/11/01 who want to begin a collision repair career by attending a collision repair community college or college.  The scholarship will pay for tuition and required books/tools for veterans enrolling in collision repair programs in the summer/fall 2013. Interested veterans can apply for the scholarship by visiting the Collision Repair Education Foundation’s website: www.CollisionEducationFoundation.org, under “Students” and “Hire Our Heroes.” The deadline for the application is May 31. As part of the application, a veteran would submit information for the collision school he/she would like to attend. The winners of the scholarship will be notified in July. Honor flight

The Airborne and Special Operations Museum will host two screening of the new documentary film “Honor Flight,” which chronicles volunteer efforts to transport World War II veterans from across the country to the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C. The screenings, at 1 and 3 p.m., Friday, are open to the public, but require RSVP’d ticketing available by calling 646-861-0843 or emailing  stephanie@frankpublicity.com. Honor Flight, produced by Freethink Media, is a heartwarming documentary about four living World War II veterans and a Midwest community coming together to give them the trip of a lifetime.
