Fort Bragg Families enjoyed a morning of stories, playtime, crafts and hot cocoa during the United Service Organizations of North Carolina at Fort Bragg’s monthly story time, Jan. 26. All children in attendance also received the book read during the event.

This is the fourth year the Fort Bragg Center has presented the monthly event, said Beverly Jackson, assistant director, Fort Bragg Center. She said the structure at each story time is relatively the same, but the craft will change based on the book.

The craft activities are set up at tables, and the USO staff encourages parents to work on the craft with their children.

The snacks and drinks available after story time are also tied to the story of the month, Jackson said. During story time, a guest reader entertains Families with their rendition of the book.

Jackson said members of Fort Bragg leadership in uniform are especially popular as guest readers.

“They have an awesome time engaging with Families,” said Jackson. “It just makes it a little more special.”

Parents said they appreciate the generosity of the USO.

“We enjoy the free books. They are so nice and accommodating here,” said Kia Thao. She said her children’s favorite part of the morning is playtime with other kids.

The USO of N.C. at Fort Bragg holds story time the fourth Thursday of each month from January through October and the third Thursday in November. December’s story time is the USO Breakfast with Santa, the date of which is not yet determined.
