During “Lifeliners” week, there are many physical and mental challenges each company competes in throughout the week. The winning company will earn bragging rights throughout the rest of the year until the next event.
“Lifeliners week is an opportunity where we take a break on everyday duties and celebrate the organization as a whole,” said 1st Sgt. Melisha Wilson of Headquarters Headquarters Company, 82nd Special Troops Battalion. “We build esprit de corps between the companies.”
The 82nd STB is part of the 82nd Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade. The 178th Signal Company, 18th Human Resources Company, the Financial Management Support Unit and Headquarters Headquarters Company all competed during “Lifeliners” week.
Family members, including pets, ran with paratroopers of the “Lifeliners” in the early hour fun run to help kick off the challenging week. The week consisted of friendly competition in different sports, many team obstacle courses, as well as individual physical challenges.
“Lifeliners are the heart and soul of the organization (82nd Abn. Div. Sustainment Bde.),” said 1st Sgt. Wilson. “We support every mission the 82nd Airborne Division does. So, now we get to relax and let our hair down and help celebrate ourselves.”
A Family-oriented formal spring ball and an organizational day concluded “Lifeliners” week. Paratroopers of the 82nd STB were able to bring not only their spouses to the formal ball, but children were encouraged to come as well.
The 82nd All American Chorus gave an impromptu concert during the ball and the 82nd Abn. Div.’s Chaplain, Col. James Griffin was the guest speaker.
There was a continuing theme and message throughout the week and it showed on many of the participants’ faces during the challenges: “Lifeliners” never quit!
