Two iterations of Vacation Bible School return to Fort Bragg with the VBS Sports Camp, June 12 to 16 and the VBS, June 19 to 23. Both events are free and open to the public.
The sports camp will take place at Shughart Middle School, from 9 a.m. to noon. Activities will include basketball, football, baseball, soccer, dance and crafts, as well as Bible story and snacks. The camp is geared toward youth in kindergarten through fifth grades, said Jeff Nevin, director of Religious Education, Fort Bragg Garrison Chaplains Office.
VBS studies will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Devers Elementary School. This year’s theme will be Maker Fun Factory: Created by God; Built for a Purpose. VBS will be open to youth in grades kindergarten through sixth.
There are 250 slots available for sports camp and 400 for VBS Bragg, said Nevin.
Both events are in need of volunteers, whose duties would include acting as team, crew or station leader. Volunteers would, for instance, help to set up and tear down stations.
Registration forms can be picked up at any chapel, the Religious Support Office or at the Chaplain (Major) Charles J. Watters Family Center for Counseling and Resiliency. Forms may be returned to Pope Chapel or scanned and sent by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Because VBS activities help provide resiliency to Soldiers and their Family members, Nevins encourages attendance.
“(It) provides opportunity for spiritual beginning and/or growth for students and volunteers. Engages the scriptures with fun, team-building activities,” he said.
Fort Bragg’s Religious Support Office is located in Building 2-1114 Jackson Street and the Watters Family Life Center is located at 3358 Knox St.
