Fort Bragg’s Family 5K will pay homage to fallen service members, May 21, when Survivor Outreach Services “Run, Honor, Remember” returns to Hedrick Stadium.

Held annually, the race is an important event for Fort Bragg.

“It really shows the sacrifices that service members have given — the ultimate sacrifice, said Charlotte Watson, SOS program manager. The field will display more than 7,000 boots, each bearing the tag and photo of a fallen service member.

Volunteers will be needed to help transport the boots to the field for set up, Watson said.

The run, which begins at 8 a.m., is open to all Department of Defense ID cardholders and their guests, with no registration required. Organizations and units are encouraged to run as a group. Strollers and dogs are welcome.

Fort Bragg’s monthly 5K is a Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation event that promotes fitness among service members and their Families. It also provides the opportunity for installation groups to highlight their services.
