This year is almost over and I can’t wait for 2014. Why, you ask? Well let me tell you — blockbusters.
If you are a movie buff like me, you may want to set up an account just for your movie expenses for the next two years.
Hollywood seems to have found a new formula in movie magic and they are running with it. I’ll let you in on a little secret before I start naming titles -— it’s comic books and sci-fi.
With today’s technology, we no longer have to watch cheesy movie special effects or gawk at Superman as he flies around in speedos, hanging on white yarn.
Directors like J.J. Arbams, Bryan Singer, Michael Bay and James Cameron have made it possible for us to enjoy some of our favorite childhood superheroes and animated characters on the big screen in live-action films. Who knew transformers could actually look so cool outside of animation?
After watching countless AMC videos on upcoming movies, I have compiled a list of my top five movies set to premier in 2014.
5. The Amazing Spiderman 2.
Now I was never a fan of the idea of them remaking the previous Spiderman movies. I actually enjoyed Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker. With that in mind, this sequel to Spiderman comes in at number five.
I can’t say that the remake was bad, I just don’t want to let go of Maguire’s rendition. Academy award-winner Jamie Foxx plays the villain, Electro in this new film. Foxx has shown that he can play the comedian, the serious softy, historical figures, the president, oh and did I mention he sings. Any movie is lucky to have Jamie Foxx appear as one of the lead characters — good or bad.
4. Fast and Furious 7.
If you have seen this series, how could you not fall in love with this makeshift family of vigilantes? Vin Diesel, The Rock, Paul Walker and now they’re adding Jason Statham to the mix as the main baddy Ian Shaw; we are surely in for a treat.
3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Growing up I was never a fan of Capt. Chris Evans. But the last Avengers movie changed my mind completely. I have seen the trailer for this film, ‘The Winter Soldier,” and I am hooked. The Winter Soldier looks like the coolest villain ever and I can’t wait to see him on the big screen along with up-and-coming actor Anthony Mackie as the first African American superhero in this cinematic marvel universe playing Falcon.
2. Transformers 4: Age of Extinction.
Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime will never get old. I still remember that feeling of amazement when the Sikorsky MH-53 Pave Low helicopter transformed into the decepticon Blackout. This marked the first time anyone had seen a live-action transformer transformation.
Michael Bay promises even more mind blowing action with the introduction of the fan favorite Dino Bots. Oh, and there is a rumor that Galvatron will make his appearance. Mark Walberg takes the main human lead in this film as a Cade, a mechanic who makes a discovery that catches the attention of the Cybertronians.
1. X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Yeah, you probably guessed this would be number one on my list. After six X-Men films, we finally get to the Sentinels on screen. Yes, I said six films without the mutants’ number one enemy.
Finally Bryan Singer is back to give fans what we deserve — giant robots and more of Hugh Jackmans’ Wolverine action. This new film brings the past and present Charles Xavier, sharing screen time together between Patrick Stewart, his older version and James McAvoy’s younger version from First Class.
Singer is going out of his way to introduce many new mutants to the cast that we loved growing up. Just to name a few, you can expect to see Warpath, Blink, Sunspot and Bishop along with returning mutants the likes of Iceman, Rogue, Shadow Cat and Colossus. The make of this movie promises to give us the greatest superhero film ever.
