The 85th Civil Affairs Brigade increased the warrior diplomat footprint Sept. 18, when it activated the 83rd Civil Affairs Battalion at Fort Bragg’s Rafferty Field in a 9 a.m. ceremony.
The 83rd Civil Affairs Battalion, Building H-5626 on Kedenburg Street, is regionally oriented to provide civil affairs support to the United States Central Command theater of operations.
The battalion is under the command of Lt. Col. William Rice and the 85th Civil Affairs Brigade under the command of Col. Leo J. Ruth II.
The battalion has civil affairs teams trained to respond in support of a variety of operations to include foreign humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, national assistance, support to host national governance and their populations and to civil administrations.
The 83rd Civil Affairs Battalion provides a professional force of highly
trained warrior diplomats ready to respond in moment’s notice.
“The U.S. government has a long standing partnership with nations such as Israel, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and newly formed partners such as Iraq, and
Afghanistan,” said Ruth. “While progress is being made, the 83rd Civil Affairs Battalion and the 85th Civil Affairs Brigade are committed to assisting U.S. Central Command and our partnered nations in building a stronger and peaceful middle east,” he said.
