Staff Sgt. Craig A. Edgington, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 1st Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment was named the XVIII Airborne Corps’ Equal Opportunity Leader of the Year following a competition that took place at Fort Bragg on Oct. 3.

The one-day competition included an individual appearance before a panel of the XVIII Abn. Corps EO sergeant major and EO advisors from across the post. Three competitors were evaluated on their professional knowledge and their roles as equal opportunity leaders.

When the smoke cleared, Edgington earned the title as the command’s best EO leader.

“Being selected as the equal opportunity leader of the Year is an honor. I am glad my battalion commander selected me for this position. It has given me the ability to train Soldiers and build a more cohesive unit by fostering a good equal opportunity climate,” he said, following the event.

Equal opportunity leaders are responsible for assisting commanders at the battalion level or lower in carrying our the EO program objectives within their units. Typical roles and duties of EOLs include assisting commanders in addressing EO climate detractors and conducting unit climate assessments.
