Are you having problems sticking to that New Year resolution to be physically fit?
Don’t worry, because your very own fitness center is close by.
The U.S. Army Forces Command and U.S Army Reserve Command Special Troops Battalion Fitness Center is now open in the old Firestone Building at the corner of Knox, Scott, and Macomb streets, just across the street from the FORSCOM/USARC headquarters.
While there are other fitness centers on post, the proximity leaves few excuses for Soldiers and civilians to start exercising.
“This is a better fit for personnel to get out of the building,” said 1st Sgt. Tanya Page, first sergeant for FORSCOM/USARC Headquarters and Headquarters Company STB.
An added bonus is a running and walking track across the street.
Page said that fitness isn’t just about keeping that resolution, it should also be a way of life for Soldiers.
“Physical fitness is an individual responsibility,” she said. “As leaders, we have to provide not just the time, but the facilities for someone to conduct that physical fitness.”
Page said having the facility across the street helps officers and noncommissioned officers make sure they can meet the physical requirements for any of the service schools.
The facility has free weighs, treadmills, elliptical machines, and weight machines, along with shower and restroom facilities.
For master sergeants Paula Rouse and Ulises Marrero, the convenient location makes it an ideal facility.
“I was going to Pope (Fitness Center) and it was pretty far and took up a lot of my time,” Rouse said. “It’s clean, it’s nice, it has everything you need to workout, and it’s right across the street. You can’t ask for more.”
Marrero, who uses the facility at least three days a week, said the working out is not a New Year resolution though he admitted he was working towards being in the “best shape possible.
“It’s the best way to keep a healthy lifestyle,” he said.
The fitness center is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day. A simple swipe of your headquarters access card will allow you to start working out immediately and help you keep that New Year resolution.
