As the effects of the impending furlough of Department of the Army civilians and funding reductions across the Department of Defense begin to take effect, Fort Bragg leaders have announced the following impacts to services provided to the Fort Bragg community.
“While the furloughs will impact the services that we can provide to the military community, we will not lose our capacity to train and equip our airborne and special operations servicemembers, deploy them if the call comes and provide essential life, health and safety measures to our war fighters, their Families and our civilian workforce,” said Col. Jeffrey Sanborn, Fort Bragg garrison commander.
Services that will not be affected
The following services will not be affected by sequestration and the furlough of civilian employees: Army Career and Alumni Program classes Child development centers School Age Services Access control points (limited manning on Fridays during furlough period) Bowling centers Golf courses Yntema Club Fort Bragg Club Outdoor Recreation Travel and Tours Pools (indoor and outdoor) Cleland Ice Rink Family housing On-post lodging Courses taught by civilian colleges and universities at the Bragg Training and Education Center Fort Bragg Sponsorship Program Fort Bragg Reception Company (for inprocessing Soldiers) Emergency Services, including Police and Fire Department Mission Training Center Engagement Skills Trainer Dismounted Soldier Training System Reconfigurable Vehicle Tactical Trainer Vehicle Rollover Trainers Virtual Clearance Training Suite
Impacts on medical services
Womack Army Medical Center Main Outpatient Pharmacy closed Sundays, beginning July 14 Refill Distribution Center Pharmacy closed Saturdays, at noon, beginning July 13 The Post Exchange Pharmacy will close from 1 to 2 p.m., beginning July 8 WAMC’s outlying clinics will close Fridays, from July 8 to Sept. 30. Clinics include Clark Health Clinic, Joel Health and Dental Clinic, Robinson Health Clinic, Troop and Family Medical Clinic, Fayetteville Medical Home and Hope Mills Medical Home. WAMC Residency Clinic will operate as a consolidated clinic on Fridays, beginning July 8. Patients must call 907-2778 to make appointments and call 907-2625 to cancel appointments. Patients may also schedule or cancel appointments though the TRICARE website at www.tricareonline.com Fort Bragg dental clinics will be closed Fridays, from July 12 through Sept. 30. Simmons and MacKall Army Airfields (closed Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays) Installation shuttle (reduced services) Commissaries (closed on Mondays) McKellar’s Range (no shooting on Sundays) Range Airspace Information Center and Fire Desk will be closed Saturdays at midnight, through Mondays at 8 a.m., beginning July 14. No training will be conducted during this time.
