To apply, the student must be a dependent of a servicemember on active duty, Reservist, Guardsman, retiree or survivor of a military member who died in the line of duty or survivor of a retiree, unmarried, under 21 years, or 23 if enrolled as a full-time student at a college or university. Applicants, as well as their sponsor, must be enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System database and have a current military ID card. The applicant must also be planning to attend or already attending an accredited college or university full time in the fall of 2013 or be enrolled in a program of studies designed to transfer directly into a four-year program. Also, applicants must submit an essay on a title announced on www.militaryscholar.org.
