Place your Girl Scout cookie orders
Please see your Bethany UMC Girl Scout to place your order for your favorite Girl Scout cookies. Cookies will arrive Jan. 13 this year. The cost is $4 per box and goes to help support the local troops at Bethany as well as council wide facilities, activities and camps. All the familiar types are back this year: Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Shortbread, Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Thanks-a-Lot, Lemonades, and Girl Scout S'mores. The S’mores cookie is a crispy graham cookie double dipped in yummy crème icing and finished with a scrumptious chocolatey coating.
The Girl Scouts will sponsor “Operation Sweet Treat” again this year. They will collect donations to purchase cookies to send to the troops overseas. So even if you do not eat cookies yourself, please consider purchasing a box to be sent to our troops protecting us.
Lions clubs hold holiday events
Davis-Townsend Lions Club entertained VIPs at its annual Christmas party. Spouses of deceased members were special guests for the evening. Everyone enjoyed a great steak dinner, and VIPS and widows received gifts on the occasion.
The club reminds those who have ordered barbecued pork shoulders and pork butts to pick them up by 11 a.m. Dec. 23.
Davidson County Lions Council’s VIP Christmas party was well-attended by Davis-Townsend Lions’ visually impaired persons and guests who enjoyed the traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings and some great entertainment from Past District Governor Tim Williams from the Linwood Lions Club. Each VIP present received a Food Lion gift card.
Lion Theresa Munyon who is also a VIP, continued her popular raffle, selling half and half tickets with a chance to win one of her delicious gift bags or a ticket to the Camp Dogwood raffle next June. You too can get in on that raffle for a chance to win a new vehicle and help support Camp Dogwood for the blind and visually-impaired. Tickets are $10 and available from any Lion. There are 15 clubs in Davidson County so there should be one near you, or contact me at the address below. These tickets make a great gift that gives back.
School to sponsor blood drive
Davis-Townsend Elementary Student Council will sponsor a blood drive from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 11.
