The Healthy Base Initiative will launch Nov. 12 to help improve the health and well-being of servicemembers, their Families, retirees and Department of Defense civilians. It is an ongoing effort aimed at helping the military community strive for ideal health standards.

HBI is a demonstration project in support of Operation Live Well, which promotes education about the resources and tools available for sustaining and improving health.

HBI promotes activities such as making informed food choices, increasing physical activity, weight management and tobacco cessation. The HBI initiative is an important one in building a ready and resilient community, a cost-saving measure in times of fiscal insecurity, while also reflecting the DoD’s commitment to be a leader in the nation’s preventive health efforts.
