The 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command is hosting Fort Bragg’s first official lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender observance event, June 15, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Pope Family Readiness Group Center.
Organizers from 3rd ESC said the event will consist of a panel, where seven members of the Fort Bragg LGBT community will discuss different LGBT programs that have assisted them. The panel, some of whom are service members, will also answer questions from the audience.
The observance is part of an effort to maintain fairness and equality, as directed by Maj. Gen. Paul LaCamera, deputy commander of the XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg.
The event is an important one to provide the Fort Bragg community an understanding of how these Soldiers are coping, said Sgt. 1st Class Donna Davis, Public Affairs Operations noncommissioned officer for 3rd ESC.
“They deserve to be treated with dignity and respect,” she said. “They are upholding the Army values and deserve to be respected.”
The theme of the observance is “Pride, not Prejudice; Diversity, not Division.” All members of the community are welcome to attend the event.
