One of the best things about North Carolina is the perfect pool weather. Most Fort Bragg neighborhoods have pools that residents can visit, but those of us who don’t live on Fort Bragg still have pool options on the installation. Fort Bragg also has a few indoor pools that are open during the winter months for those that enjoy swimming year round.
Department of Defense ID cardholders can get into pools for $3. Guests are $5, and up to two guests are allowed for DoD ID cardholders. Punch cards are available as well.
Normandy Outdoor Pool
This pool is next to the Ryder Golf Course clubhouse. It is currently open until Sept. 4. The pool has a diving board and three slides. Children are required to take a swim test before they can use the slides or the diving board. It is open all week from noon to 7 p.m. until Aug. 11. From Aug. 11 to Sept. 4, the pool is open Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 7 p.m. The pool is open during federal holidays.
Twin Lions Pool
On the corner of Normandy Drive and Ardennes Road, Twin Lions Pool is open for military Families to enjoy during the summer. Lap swim is held Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Units can reserve the pool between 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. for training. The pool is open for recreational swim time Monday through Friday, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sunday and federal holidays from noon to 7 p.m.
The pool is 50 meters long with two diving boards and a splash pad.
Atchley Outdoor Pool
This pool is currently under renovations, but it is the outdoor pool near Tucker Gym. It is a 25-meter length pool, and the lap swim hours are for patrons 16 years and older. Atchley will be open next season, with a dome.
Tucker Indoor Pool
This indoor pool is located at Tucker Gym, but it closes during the summer. It will open again in September. Tucker has six 25 yard lanes for lap swim and is a salt water pool.
Tolson Indoor Pool
Tolson is open for swimming lessons, water aerobics and masters swim classes only. Their hours are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tolson is located on Normandy Drive For more information about the classes offered at Tolson, please visit
Fort Bragg has a youth swim team called the Fort Bragg Fighting Fish. They are a USA Swimming sanctioned team and all coaches are ASCA certified.
A Masters Swim Club is available for adults as well. The program encourages adults to get out and swim. For more information about the teams, visit
Pool parties can also be held at the pools on Fort Bragg. Reservations should be made two weeks in advance of the party date, and parties can be held both during pool hours or after hours for an additional fee. Twin Lions Pool also hosts the “Dive-In Theater” throughout the summer. The next movie is The Little Mermaid, and will be shown July 22.
