It was a Special Operations battle when the 95th Civil Affairs softball team took on the men of the 97th Civil Affairs in the first round of the single-elimination League 3 Softball Tournament, Monday, at Ritz-Epps Field.
Despite having only eight players, 97th CA started off the game strong, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning.
The team from 95th CA batted in one run in the first, ending the inning with a score of 1-4.
In the bottom of the second inning, 95th CA took charge and never looked back. The team hit a grand slam to go up 7 to 5, and finished the inning with 10 runs.
The players from 97th CA tried to muster a comeback in the third inning, but suffered three quick outs before heading back on defense. 95th CA added seven more runs, mostly on long drives to left field. They ended the inning up by a score of 17 to 5.
Things went from bad to worse for the 97th CA in the fourth inning. They weren’t able to score, and 95th CA batted in eight more runs before the game was called with a final score of 25-5.
