Fort Bragg’s Army Community Service has a lot to celebrate. The organization was recently named the 2016 winner of Large Installation ACS of the Year by the Department of the Army. This is the second time in the past three years Fort Bragg’s ACS has won this prestigious award, according to Jolly Miller, Chief, Army Community Service Division, U.S. Army Installation Management Command headquarters, ACS.
One key to the organization’s success is having a team that believes in its mission, explained Barbara Trower-Simpkins, director, ACS.
“We can’t do it all by ourselves so we build partnerships both on and off the installation in order to provide the needed programs and services,” she said. “Our team is made up of veterans, Family members and a few true civilians who understand the sacrifice that our military makes on a daily basis.”
Last year, the organization served over a million customers while maintaining a 98.9 percent customer satisfaction rating. Trower-Simpkins said this statistic speaks for itself, and DoA agreed.
The Fort Bragg community had the chance to experience the excellent services of ACS at its 52nd birthday celebration, Tuesday. Visitors to the Soldier Support Center were greeted by enthusiastic ACS staff, ready to provide information on the organization’s many offerings.
From the Family Advocacy Program to the Financial Readiness Program, Soldiers and Family members learned how ACS could benefit them. Attendees said they appreciated the event.
“The best part is the information for spouses and kids,” said Master Sgt. Nona Burns, 95th Civil Affairs.
Nathenia Williams, Family member and Soldier, has used several ACS programs, and said all have been nothing but helpful. Williams also said she hopes more Fort Bragg newcomers will take advantage of the different options from ACS. Trower-Simpkins echoes this sentiment.
“We want ACS to be the first stop when someone arrives on post, as well as be there to answer any question you may have,” she said. “Our team is proud and committed to serving the military’s best.”
