Who is the Association of Bragg Spouses?
ABS is a nonprofit organization that welcomes the spouses of active-duty or retired military members, no matter their spouses rank. ABS works throughout the year to raise funds to create scholarships for military dependents and welfare grants to local business that support the military.
How does ABS raise money?
ABS organizes two major fundraising events annually. Upcoming will be the ABS Yule Mart, a vendor event featuring crafts, products and services of local businesses and member spouses. Yule Mart will be held on Oct. 20 to 22 at Hercules Fitness Center. The next fundraising event ABS will hold is the Spring Formal. This event’s date and location are to be announced. It is a formal dinner event with live and silent auctions.
Why join ABS?
According to the ABS website, the purpose of the organization is to develop and foster a spirit of community, to provide opportunities for social, cultural and creative pursuits and to support service and community projects.
Kristen Rose, an executive board member in charge of ABS membership, says the sense of belonging is what she really enjoys about the group.
No matter what is happening on base there is someone there for everyone, said Rose.
“We are constantly helping each other out.”
ABS also offers internal specialized clubs and holds monthly themed luncheons for members.
Interested in being a part of ABS?
The first chance for new members to get involved during the 2017 to 2018 year is fast approaching. ABS is hosting its annual Super Sign Up at Iron Mike Conference Center, Sept. 7. This membership drive will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include shopping, raffles, refreshments and on-site sign ups.
Fifty vendors will be in attendance with everything from homemade crafts and LuLaRoe clothing to booths for on-post organizations. Raffle giveaways will run throughout the day with winnings being contributed by participating vendors. Refreshments will include punch and cookies. Anyone interested in signing up can do so by attending the event and filling out an application and paying the $25 in annual dues. All applicants are accepted. Applications may also be carried away and submitted later.
