A plate full of cookies waiting to be decorated, sprinkles and colored frosting, a jug of milk to wash it all down and a smiling Mrs. Claus greeted Families as they entered the Nijmegen Community Center, Saturday.
Christmas Cookies with Mrs. Claus, an event hosted by Hannah Cabrera, Princess Stories, had an unexpectedly high registration.
“I had no idea it would be so big, in an hour, the first 20 tickets were gone,” said Cabrera.
At the start of the event, 75 children were registered to attend.
Children were invited to choose a cookie from a variety of shapes. There were snowmen, candy canes, gingerbread men and more to decorate.
Priscila Cruz, a Fort Bragg Family member, and her two daughters Grace, and Abigail, have attended prior Princess Stories events.
“The girls always have a blast … and this is so adorable. It’s my favorite time of year,” said Priscila.
Abigail’s gingerbread man sugar cookie looks as though it has been buried under icing and sprinkles, said Mrs. Claus.
“I can’t tell what it is anymore,” agreed Abigail.
Mrs. Claus also read to attendees from a selection of Christmas stories, hosted a sing-along and encouraged everyone to dance to a mix of Christmas songs.
Jennifer Smith, a Fort Bragg Family member, explained that her mother, Ann DeGregorio, had stumbled on the event while looking for Santa meet and greets.
Jennifer, her mother and her two children, Sophia, and Dominic, decided it would be a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
“We have been having fun,” said Jennifer.
