Yoga in the Garden: Cape Fear Botanical Garden and YMCA of the Sandhills have partnered together for Yoga in the Garden, Wednesday. Grab a yoga mat and rejuvenate at a peaceful yoga session in the beautiful Orangery at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday. Improve flexibility, build strength, ease tension and relax through posture and breathing techniques for beginners and experts alike. Bring a yoga mat, a water bottle and an open mind to enjoy this all-levels class.

Tai Chi for Health: Practice this flowing Eastern exercise with instructor Rich Martin while overlooking the garden every Tuesday at the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Tai Chi is best practiced in loose, comfortable clothing. Dress for the weather as the class may be held outside. Bring a water bottle. All levels and walk-ins are available. Admission to the class is $17 for non-garden members, $15 for garden members.

Bellydance 101 with Fahada: This is the first 6 week bellydance class session at Transcend Normal Fitness! 18th annual John E. Norman Cinco de Mayo 5k & 10k Road Race: Celebrate May 5 by pounding the pavement. This course passes by many downtown landmarks, including the Market House, the Dogwood Trail, the Airborne & Special Operations Museum and Freedom Memorial Park.

 

Color Run 5K: Less about your 10-minute-mile and more about having the time of your life! The Color Run is a five-kilometer, un-timed race in which thousands of participants, or “Color Runners”, are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. The run will take place at the Colisuem starting at 9:00 a.m. on May 19. With only two rules, the idea is easy to follow: Wear white at the starting line Finish plastered in color!The fun continues after Color Runners complete the race with an unforgettable Finish Festival. Cole Humphrey Memorial Run: This years 5k is at Cape Fear High School, Fayetteville NC, on May 12 starting at 8 a.m. In memory and honor of the life of Cole Humphrey we are beginning a traditional 5k, 10k, and 2.5k to raise money for the Cole Humphrey Foundation hich provides scholarships to athletes at Cape Fear High School. The Third Annual Derby Run: In memory of Justin Lopes will take place on Saturday, May 19, at 8:30a.m. The event is a 5k Run/Walk and will begin at Terry Sanford High School, Justin’s alma mater. It will proceed through the scenic Haymount area, including through the campus of Fayetteville Technical Community College and finish at the Terry Sanford High School football field. Timing is provided. Net proceeds from the event will go to support the Child Advocacy Center in Fayetteville, Cy’s World Foundation, and the Justin Richard Lopes Memorial Scholarship of Cumberland Community Foundation. There will be lots of color and fun along the route and at least 2 water stations will be available. The race will start at Kiwannis Rec Center (Honeycutt Park) at 9:00 a.m on May 12.
