Things that make women happy are chocolate, food, and laughter, that’s why Army Community Services (ACS) held a Motivation by chocolate event celebrating Military Spouses Day.

On May 10, at the Family Readiness Group, a room filled with women celebrated their efforts that help keep so many things on Bragg installation running efficiently and effectively.

The theme behind the celebration is chocolate and motivation.

“We always do something for military spouse appreciation day. For the past five years, we have done the Women Wellness conference but this year we did a smaller scale. We wanted it to be something fun, something different than your typical training,” said Cathy Mansfield ACS Operations/Volunteer Services coordinator.

Women with different employment backgrounds such as stay at home mothers, teachers, counselors, to nurses, were able to join for different activities while getting to know each other. This event was for not only fun but educational purposes as well.

“Being motivated can be very challenging for military spouses,” said guest speaker Denise Ryan.

“It’s hard because stuff happens from health issues, deployments, issues with your children, it can be tuff staying motivated. I think it is all about having tools and tips for when you start feeling demotivated.

Lessons the speaker discussed were:

• Getting more out of every day - both personally and professionally (and eat chocolate)

• Getting tips for staying happy no matter what (and eat chocolate)

• Discover how to get along with others (even if you don't like them) (and eat chocolate)

• Learning what the world's best chocolate makers discovered about their communication styles that made them successful

• Learn what your "chocolate style" says about you!

Ryan is a motivational speaker, author, and she has the title of Certified Speaking Professional. She received the North Carolina Association of CPAs Speaker of the Year Award in 2008 and 2015.

“I have never heard of an event like this, so I decided to come out and see what this was all about. My husband was just stationed here; I do not have any friends, so I am enjoying meeting new people here. Plus I love chocolate,” said Brittney Chase military spouse.

Each year ACS does an event for military appreciation day and this is the first year for motivation by chocolate theme. For more information visit ACS website.
