In its latest iteration of the Community Information Exchange, held Nov. 16, at the Iron Mike Conference Center, Fort Bragg leadership disseminated information and answered questions from attendees.

The CIE, according to its website, provides information about programs, services and events to spouses of battalion, brigade and higher-level commanders and command sergeants major.

Col. Brett T. Funck, Fort Bragg Garrison commander reminded attendees that, as Fort Bragg deals with fall and winter, unit commanders have the authority to determine those persons who are mission-essential personnel. In cases of inclement weather, mission-essential personnel report to the installation.

In other business, Funck cautioned drivers to practice safe driving habits.

“Just really be cognizant ... slow down during dark or PT (physical training) times,” he said.

Also, he expounded on safety advice given by Maj. Jeff Gassaway, station commander, Fort Bragg Law Enforcement Center.

Be cognizant of when deliveries will be made so they do not sit on the front porch for a long period of time; secure basement doors and ensure garage doors are closed, Funck said.

Advice given by Gassaway included saving all receipts, using alternate payment options such as prepaid cards, money orders and cashier checks; parking close to stores when shopping; locking purchases in the trunk rather than leaving them visible in a vehicle; and notifying security if you see unsecured packages.

To report suspicious activity on the installation, call 396-0391 or 396-0392, said George Olavarria, deputy director, Directorate of Emergency Services.
