The United States Army Special Operations Aviation Command, Supply Support Activity

was named the best Level IV-A Modified Table of Organization and Equipment SSA

in the United States Army Special Operations Command during a ceremony at USASOC’s Heritage Auditorium Thursday.

“The SSA provides world class logistical support to the command’s fleet of special operations aircraft, ground maintenance vehicles and the multiple customer supply sections in all environments,” said Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 J.R. Brown, the USASOAC SSA accountable officer. “Our team is responsible for the requisition, issue, storage, management and turn-in of all classes of authorized stockage list items for the command.”

Brown said the SSA is also responsible for managing the central receiving point for all incoming and outgoing shipments.

Doing their job and exceeding the standard is what earned his team this year’s USASOC Supply Excellence Award.

The SEA recognizes the overall appearance, professionalism, customer service and proficiency of a unit SSA operation. The award also takes into account the unit’s compliance with supply and maintenance regulatory policies and procedures.

“Participation in this competition motivates the entire team,” said Army Chief Warrant Officer 5 Tracy D. Eby, the USASOAC G-4 material management officer-in-charge. “The Soldiers and civilians in our unique SSA are very excited about winning the USASOC level SEA competition for the fourth time, and the first as a part of USASOAC.

“Our SSA is unique because it’s been simultaneously supporting garrison and multiple forward deployed locations in support of the Global War on Terrorism for more than 10 years. The nature of the mission requires us to be self-supporting, so the shop is organized to meet the special operations mission requirements. This requires a 24/7 standby with the ability to ship parts overnight to the continental United States and three to five days outside the continental United States.”

Brown and Sgt. 1st Class Victor A. Lee, the USASOAC SSA noncommissioned officer-in-charge, attended the ceremony to accept the award on behalf of the SSA.

“The USASOC Level IV Supply Excellence Award is an outstanding accomplishment for the entire team, most importantly our Soldiers and civilians,” said Brown. “Winning this evaluation against the other outstanding USASOC units is indicative to the efforts and skills our Soldiers possess. I am very humbled to work with such an outstanding group.”

Following the USASOC award, the team will be nominated for the Army Chief of Staff Supply Excellent Awards Program. However, due to budgetary constraints, the status of the Army level program is currently unclear.

Whether the Department of the Army inspects them or not, Brown insists it will be business as usual at the USASOAC SSA.

“Our preparations (for an evaluation) coincide with our daily procedures,” he said. “It is our philosophy; if we work hard and do the right procedures daily, it means we are ready to be evaluated at any time. We look forward to the next step in the evaluation process.”
