One of the Health Base Initiative kickoff activities scheduled for Nov. 12 through 15 is Cooking Matters. This event empowers Families with the nutrition education skills to shop for and prepare healthy affordable meals. Cooking Matters serves Families through hands-on cooking courses and interactive grocery store tours in which participants learn to shop smarter, use nutrition information to make healthier choices, and cook delicious, affordable meals.

Join a Cooking Matters at the commissary store tour and receive an opportunity to take home $10 worth of the healthy groceries of your choice using the skills learn on the tour on Nov. 14. Or join us for an interactive Cooking Matters cooking classes on Nov. 15.

The Cooking Matters  tours will be held at the South Post Commissary at 1017 Canopy Lane, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Nov. 14. Tours start every 20 minutes and last about an hour and 15 minutes. Each tour will be limited to eight people and interested participants should RSVP online at> .

The Cooking Matters classes will be held at two locations on Nov. 15. One class will be at the Nijmegen Community Center, 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.  Please RSVP online at 

Classes last about an hour and will be limited to the first 20 people who RSVP online. Depending on response rate, classes may or may not be open to walk-ins.
