The Military Order of the Purple Heart Bragg Chapter 2226 started their Christmas giving early Dec. 12. At Warrior Transition Battalion facility, 46 Purple Heart recipients received checks to help them out during the holiday season.

Our Home for Christmas Project provides Purple Heart patients assigned the WTB with a financial gift to assist them with their travel plans or expenses associated with the Christmas season, said Arturo P. Macaltao commander of the Purple Heart Bragg Chapter.

While the chapter takes great pride in giving the checks to the Soldiers and their Families, they said they appreciate the willingness of the community to show their support which make this gift possible for wounded Soldier.

This is a project we took on a couple of years ago, said Macaltao. We started fund raising by sending out letters to local businesses and organizations who were able to provide donations to us so we could help Purple Heart Soldiers assigned to the WTB.

The chapter handed out $27,600 dollars in Christmas relief to Soldiers and their Family members. Each Soldier was given a check and was thanked again for their service to the country.

Its a big thing especially for a lot of the younger Soldiers, said Staff Sgt. Adam Camp WTB. A lot of the younger Soldiers who get critically injured who are sent here as Purple Heart vets are going through a big transition and a lot of turmoil. Its a nice reminder today to know that the government, Army and the Order of the Purple Heart Bragg

Chapter still appreciate what we are doing.

While the day is about giving back to the Soldiers, Macaltao takes the time get to know each Soldier, to whom he awards a check.

It feels great to give back to Soldiers like this, said Malcaltao. With the Christmas season upon them (Soldiers), its a wonderful feeling to brighten their day with something like this that can help with Christmas presents, traveling expenses or whatever they need.
