USO run

The USO of N.C. 5th Annual Run for the Troops will be held June 1, at Methodist University.

Runners, walkers and strollers are welcome.

Runners will be chip-timed by Atlantic Coast Timing.

Fishing derby

The Armed Services YMCA will hold its 3rd Annual Family Fishing Derby, May 18, at Lake Rim Park (7489 Raeford Road), from 9 a.m. to noon.

In order to ensure your child receives a T-shirt, please register by May 10.

Registration will also be available the day of the event.

Registration forms can be found at the and turned in at the ASYMCA main office (Bldg. 2-2411 Rodney Trail) or mailed to:  ASYMCA, ATTN:  Lynne Grates; 439 Westwood Shopping Center – FB#430; Fayetteville, NC 28314.

The $10 registration fee includes rod, bait and a T-shirt.

Trophies for most fish caught and largest fish will be awarded at the end of derby.

Cleland closing

Fort Bragg’s Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation’s Cleland Ice Rink will close temporarily for the summer months.

The facility will be closed for business April 27 through Sept. 15.  It will reopen Sept. 28, with a Rock the Rink celebration.

Pool fees

Summer is just around the corner.  The summer, fee-based, pool pass is required for access to all Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation outdoor swimming facilities to include Smith Lake.

Passes are available for daily, monthly and the entire summer season.

Daily passes for active- duty servicemembers and Department of Defense identification cardholders are $3 per person for ages 4 and up.  When accompanied by an identification cardholder, guests are $4 per person ages 4 and up.

Monthly passes are available for $15 for a single pass or $30 for a Family pass.  Season passes are also available in single or Family packages.  Season passes are based on rank status.

Passes can be purchased at the pools with cash or at Leisure Travel Services with a credit card.
