Nearly 1,800 on-post residents attended Corvias Military Living’s two “Spring Into Fun” events to welcome in the new season with free fun, food and games.  The first event was held on March 28, at the Corregidor Courts/Bougainville Neighborhood Center.  More than 800 residents wore light sweaters and long sleeve shirts as they ran the obstacle relay race or kicked soccer balls at a bright, inflatable goal on the first day of spring.

The second “Spring Into Fun” event was held at the Lodge at Linden Oaks on April 26.  Warm, summer-like temperatures brought more than 1,000 residents out to play, make crafts and snack on hot dogs, chips and drinks.

Linden Oaks resident Michelle Huggins smiled as she watched her husband and 3-year old daughter play games. “I like coming to these events because there’s something for the whole Family,” said Huggins, the spouse of Sgt. Raymond Huggins of XVIII Airborne Corps.

Corvias Military Living team members planned and staffed the event as a way to give back to the community.

Some of the more popular activities were the obstacle relay race, pie-eating contest, and gift card giveaways.

The interactive, inflatable games and variety of activities helped to ensure that children with special needs and wounded warriors could participate in the fun as well.

“We’re all having a great time,” said Alicia Meeks of Linden Oaks, watching her children race each other at the obstacle relay race.

Young and old hopped in potato sacks, ran through tires, jumped with a ball between their knees, tossed a ball through a tire hoop and then picked up a bottle before running to the finish line and claiming a prize.

The chaplain’s office and Army Community Service’s New Parent Support Program also participated in the event by offering face painting and a colorful parachute game.

“We want our Families to have a good time, but we also want to connect them with valuable resources in a fun way,” said Tammy Wilbur-Hoistad, Corvias’ Family Services program manager. “Judging by the crowds and happy faces, I think we succeeded.”

Corvias Military Living plans a series of free, Family-friendly events for on-post residents throughout the year.  For more information about upcoming events, please visit
