2016 Fort Bragg Combatives Invitational Tournament: Come out and cheer for your favorite fighters as they enter the octagon in the quest for the title of champion. The tournament begins Dec. 6, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Fort Bragg Combatives School. It continues Dec. 7 and 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with preliminary semi-finals at Ritz-Epps Physical Fitness Center. The finals are Dec. 9, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Ritz-Epps Physical Fitness Center. Turkey shoot: Dec. 11, at 3 p.m., at the Clay Target Center. Shotguns only, shells will be provided. No scopes allowed during this event. Turkeys and hams will be awarded for the winning shooters. There will be door prize drawings as well. Shotgun rental and ear protection are available for sale at the clubhouse or shooter can bring their own. Ear and eye protection are mandatory. Participants ages 17 years and under must be accompanied by an adult. This event is open to the public. The cost is $5 per shot.

Unit-level basketball program: League play for the unit level basketball program is tentatively scheduled to begin Dec. 12. The coaches meeting for the season will be held Dec. 1, at 6:30 p.m., at Hercules Physical Fitness Center. Initial league schedules will be sent out no later than Dec. 8. There will be a preseason basketball tournament from Dec. 5 through Dec. 9 and only those teams that have submitted a properly completed team roster will be included on the initial schedule of games. Reindeer Fun Run: This fun community event is for everyone from serious runners to recreational walkers, Families and pets, Dec. 3, starting at 7:15 a.m. The 5K Reindeer Fun Run/Walk curves through historic downtown neighborhoods of Aberdeen, North Carolina with rolling hills and wide turns. The 12Ks of Christmas Run incorporates the 5K route along with a scenic tour of Bethesda and the Malcolm Blue Farm. Both courses finish on a sloping downhill toward downtown Aberdeen and historic Union Station. For kids, the 1/2 Mile Egg Nog Jog and Kids Zone is a holiday must & fan favorite. Group Trail Run: On Dec. 17, the Runners Spot in Haymount will be hosting a group trail run and clinic with a demo run featuring Altra and UltrAspire. During this clinic, runners will learn the core principles of trail running. They will focus on uphill and downhill running form and the unique considerations of running on uneven and steep trails. Post run, there will be a raffle for a free pair of Altra running shoes as well as giveaways. This event is open to everyone, so bring your Family, friends, coworkers, joggers and pets.

Ryan’s Reindeer 5K Run: The 11th Annual Ryan’s Reindeer 5K Run is Dec. 17, at 8:30 a.m. The 5K run/walk starts and ends at the Medical Arts parking lot entrance on Hay Street in downtown Fayetteville. The race immediately goes up Haymount Hill and passes through Haymount neighborhoods. Prizes are awarded in various categories. Festive costumes are encouraged. A team trophy will be presented to the group with the largest number of participants. There are two entry categories — individual and Family. Family entrants are not eligible for the individual awards. Pets on leashes are allowed but must be controlled at all times. This is a wonderful way to kick off the holidays with your Family.
