No one should have to worry when they will get their next meal or what they are going to feed their children for dinner — especially when they are serving in the United States Army.

Paratroopers of the 18th Fires Brigade give back by donating non-perishable food items to the 82nd Airborne Division food pantry during this holiday season.

Originally, 18th Fires Bde. held a food drive at Molly Pitcher day Nov. 16, at Sicily Drop Zone. However, Maj. Randall Curry, chaplain for 18th Fires Bde., said if you missed the opportunity and forgot your bag of non-perishable items at home, you can always stop by any chapel on post  or your favorite chaplain‘s office and donate.

“Having food drives increases awareness of the division food pantry and helps paratroopers in need” said Curry.

Paratroopers in need of food can see their chaplain and receive from two to three bags of food.

There is always a greater need during the holidays, “It is important to keep it (the food pantry) stocked,” said Spc. Robert Sanchez, the chaplain assistant for 1st Battalion, 321st Airborne Field Artillery Regiment.

The 18th Fires Bde. will have future food drives in each battalion and they have started collecting names of paratroopers for holiday gift cards.

Ensuring that all paratroopers and their Families have food on their table for the holiday season is something paratroopers in 18th Fires Bde. take seriously.

At the Molly Pitcher food drive, over 100 pounds of food were collected and later donations came into the chapels and to chaplains’ offices at a steady pace.

The next time you visit your local supermarket or clean out your pantry, think about donating non-perishable food items to the 82nd Airborne Division food pantry and help a fellow paratrooper and their Family this holiday season.
