Fort Bragg is home to the area’s only ice skating rink and also offers an inline skating park at the same facility. Both skating rinks will be featured during a “Rock the Rink” event, Oct. 7, from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
The event, which was held in previous years, aims to broaden the knowledge of Fort Bragg Families, said Kelda Nolen, skating director, Cleland Ice Rink.
“The biggest goal is just to let people know that the rink is there and some things that are offered there … we have our group skating lessons for skaters of all ages, 4 through adult,” explained Nolen.
The rink is also gearing up to offer hockey lessons. Nolen said skaters at Cleland Ice Rink also have the opportunity to join a performance skating team.
Families are welcome to ice skate for free during the event, and can even participate in a free, mini learn-to-skate class. Rock the Rink will also feature two ice skating shows from members of Fort Bragg’s performance team.
Those interested in checking out the inline skating rink are encouraged to bring their own wheels, including skateboards.
The event will also feature an outdoor “Kiddie Korner” with a rock climbing wall and bouncy houses (weather permitting).
Nolen said she hopes all members of the community will come by and check out the offerings at Cleland.
“It’s going to be fun, it’s free and its for everybody — moms, dads kids, friends.”
