For those who are never too old to learn, Throckmorton Library will bring in a military historian to talk about World War I, Dec. 21, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Dr. Stanley Sandler will discuss Facts about World War I and the home front. He has written various books about military topics, including battleships, ground warfare, the Korean War, Special Forces and about the service of all-black squadrons of World War II.
“He’s very knowledgeable about the subject which is World War I,” said Ron Jackson, Throckmorton reference librarian and coordinator of the event.
Sandler, he added, has previously appeared at Fort Bragg to talk about subjects ranging from being a caregiver to a parent to experiences with marathons.
As found on Goodreads, a book-review and purchasing site, readers have rated some of Sandler’s works as informative and four out of five stars.
According to the Barnes and Noble website, Sandler is a former command historian for the U.S. Army Special Warfare Center and School, holds a Ph.D. from the University of London Department of War Studies and was visiting professor in the History of Sea Power at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Jackson encourages people to come out and hear Sandler’s presentation. It is free and open to those who are able to obtain access to Fort Bragg.
“If you want to learn the facts, I think you should definitely attend that event,” he said.
