Fort Bragg Family and Morale, Wellfare and Recreation invites Services members to bring their ruck and compete in an 11-mile race with the possibility of representing Fort Bragg in a full-marathon ruck march through the deserts of the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.
The Combat Cross Country Meet ruck challenge is open to active-duty military and will take place, Jan. 20, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Smith Lake Recreation Area.
The top five male and top five female winners will be sent as two teams representing Fort Bragg in the Bataan Memorial Death March competition on March 25 in White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.
Theresa Smith, FMWR intramural sports director, said the Combat Cross Country Meet is her favorite event.
“It’s different than the standard 5K,” said Smith. “It gives Soldiers an opportunity to represent the garrison at such an esteemed event as the Bataan Memorial Death March.”
The memorial march is an annual event that honors the many Service members who valiantly fought to defend the Philippine Islands during World War II.
Service members can register at Leisure Travel Services at the Mini Mall off of Reilly Road. A $10 entry fee is due on or before Friday or $15 after Friday. The deadline to register is next Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.
