For many people, spring is a time for fresh starts — spring cleaning, opening windows and going outside to enjoy the warm fresh air. This spring, a free tobacco cessation program is being offered for anyone who would like to quit smoking, dipping, chewing or vaping.

A Smoking Cessation series will be offered at no cost at the A-B Tech South campus, 303-B Airport Road in Arden. The series will begin Tuesday from 6:15-7:45 p.m. and will meet weekly for seven weeks.

“We want to give those who are ready to quit as many resources and as much support as we can,” said Beverly Clark, smoking cessation facilitator. “Quitting with a group helps participants because they can share challenges they are facing and discuss strategies that have worked for others.”

Trained facilitators will lead discussions to explore practical ways to reduce the urge to smoke, handle friends and family who continue to smoke, build healthful new habits and other practical tips. Quit Day is during the fourth week, with support and additional tips to follow.

The series, a resource book and materials are free, but preregistration is required. To register or for more information, call 828-694-6065 or email This Smoking Cessation series is sponsored by the Henderson County Department of Public Health.
