Henderson County is getting a new event center and tasting room all in one with the opening of Point Lookout Vineyards.

The vineyard sits atop the southeast slope of Point Lookout Mountain and has 30-mile panoramic views. The land has been in owner Michael Jackson’s family for decades. The land has a rich history, and was previously used for apple farming.

Construction of the building began last spring.

The event center can be booked for weddings, business meetings and more. The tasting room will include several award-winning wines and meads from the vineyard. The tentative plan is to fully open either the weekend of June 15 or 22.

The first night open will be a celebration for the many people who contributed to making the opening a reality, Jackson said. The following night will be a grand opening for the public.

Jackson owns coffee shops in the Charlotte area, so the tasting room will include drinks like espresso and tea. He has been growing grapes at the vineyard since 2008.

Several of the bottles and labels have a background story. For example, a red wine is named Sabrina after Jackson’s wife because it is "sweet and beautiful," he said.

Small plates will also be offered in the tasting room to pair with the wines or coffee. A cocktail patio is located right outside the tasting room.

Point Lookout Vineyards has already been bustling with activity. The first wedding was held at the event center the third weekend in May. More ceremonies are planned through the upcoming weekends.

Amenities for weddings include an all-weather pavilion with a capacity of 300 guests. The outdoor ceremony site has vineyard and mountain views in the background. A bridal suite and groom’s parlor, restrooms, full-service catering support kitchen, audio and video support and more is also included. The pavilion has a rustic, built-in fireplace and mountain views all around.

Spots are still available for the summer, but are booked for the fall.

During weekends without booked weddings, the plan is to have live music and bring food trucks onsite. The tasting room will still operate even if there is a wedding. When there is not a wedding, visitors are free to roam the property and use the event center seating areas.

For information about booking and pricing, go to www.pointlookoutvineyards.com or call 828-393-5793. Updates on the opening and more will be posted on the vineyard’s Facebook page, which can be accessed by searching Point Lookout Vineyards. The address is 408 Appleola Road in Hendersonville.
