The packed parking lot of the Hercules Fitness Center on Nov. 16 showed strong turnout on the first day of the 27th annual Yule Mart, sponsored by the Association of Bragg Spouses (ABS).

“We have fifty vendors here today,” said Cyndi McLean, the Yule Mart chair and retired Army veteran of 22 years. The Yule Mart is a collection of military spouses and associated vendors who sell crafts, goods and holiday treats over the two-day event.

Shelly Brock, a first year vendor, sold cosmetics as a side business while being a stay-at-home mom.

“I like being able to share with fellow spouses and work from home,” Brock said. “It fits into my lifestyle.”

She connected with ABS through their Facebook group.

“It’s been great (to be a vendor),” she said.

Capt. Harrison Knowlton, Company A, 122nd Aviation Support Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, and his wife, Julianne, have been selling patriotic-themed woodwork for two years as a hobby.

“We love America, and it’s fun to make these, or even customs for retired veterans,” Knowlton said. “We’ve been here since Dec. 17, and ABS has been very helpful.”

Jamie Boyle, the scholarship chair for ABS said the money they raised will go toward two major goodwill initiatives. Last year, $16,000 in scholarships were given to spouses and dependents.

“It’s great to serve the community and give back into it,” Boyle said.
